Killer Energy Drink

[Disclaimer: this is a fictional post for my COMS class-none of it actually happened. There is no reason to fear Pepsi products.]

I am a self-proclaimed energy drink connoisseur. It is my goal to taste and evaluate every one ever concocted. In fact, I plan on one day making a career of this endeavor. I will travel the globe, sampling energy drinks and writing reviews. I will be an authority on the subject.

As of now I have quite a list going. I have sampled every energy drink I am able to obtain here in the US and have written extensive reviews. These reviews are based on the drink's taste, performance, side effects-if there are any, style, presentation, and it gets an over-all rating based on it's ranking in all these areas. I tell you all that to tell you the following story.

I was reading up Pepsi's new energy drink, Adernalina, and I had heard good things about it. It's supposed to be all-natural, and low in caffeine and sugar, so I wanted to try it. I'm really glad I didn't though because soon after it was introduced, it was linked to this kid's sudden death in a grocery store.

He was like 18 years old and he just dropped dead, for no apparent reason. Come to find out, the drink was laced with crack! Pepsi was trying to save some money when they first released the product, in case it rolled over like Pepsi Blue or Crystal Pepsi, so they shipped it out from a plant in Mexico. This plant didn't get checked out by health inspectors or anything, and somehow they got the shipments out without getting it passed by the FDA.

So now Pepsi is facing all kinds of legal trouble and a huge loss in profits due to the recall-not only of the Adrenalina line, but all Pepsi products. They've also had to stop production completely, until the FDA and Heath Departments can run thorough sanitation checks on all production plants and shipping stations and pass them as acceptable for harboring products for consumption.

At this point, even if they pass inspection and get back into business, I am fully prepared to completely boycott all beverages manufactured, bottled, and sold by Pepsi Co. I am appalled that they would let something like this happen.

A Lost and Found Weekend

What a week! I somehow made it to Monday, but in the process I gotlost in the crowds, lost in the woods, and lost my voice. Now I've got your attention, right?

Well the adventure started last Wednesday with a metal concert at campus church by D.O.G.S of pray. I don't necessarily like the music, but it was probably the most fun I have had at church all year. I appreiciate that Ergun Caner understands that there are many different ways to praise God. I also appreiciate how unique Liberty University is. I can honestly say that this was the first time I have been in a mosh pit at a church. It will possibly be the only time. My neck was sore for two days and my hearing still isn't back to normal. That could also be due to the face that I went to another two concerts over the next three days...

This weekend was College for a Weekend, so there was a lot of activity on campus, including a benifit show to raise money for the Invisible Children movement. My hearing was slightly more diminished, but it was completely worth it. I was front and center for The Fostered and Point of Honor, the opening bands. Next was a spectacular performance by D.O.A-Deal on Awakening-a hip-hop dance team on campus, followed by Humble TIP. The show was awesome! I had so much fun. I got to sing into the mic, my friend caught a drumstick from Point of Honor. We also got to talk to them some after the show and they asked me to send them pictures from a show that I had seen a few years prior. It was a really good time.

The next day I went to campus serve and hiked the monogram with the kids from our site and took them to the Rot. That night was the Need to Breathe concert, with Article One. I wasn't very familiar with either of the bands, but it was a fun show and they were very good. Matt Piche's violin solo was phenomenal! This was the third of three concerts. By now my hearing is back, but my voice is gone. Not sure if it was worth it to lose my voice or not.

Sunday was interesting. After church and lunch, some friends and I decided to go to Blackwater Creek to hike and enjoy the awesome weather. Unfourtunatly we got lost. We walked for miles. Literally.
We finally made it into town-the other side of town, and got directions for the quickest way back. It took us about three hours to get back to the car. We made it back before dark though, luckily, and ate McDonald's and went to see Bride Wars, which almost made up for my sore feet.

Despite all the things I lost, I gained a lot as well. Some excellent pictures and funny stories from Blackwater Creek, new friends that came for CFAW, I got closer with the friends that I had, and over all just had an awesome time. These really are the best years of our lives.
